At 41 years old, the 1975 Lungarotti Rubeso Reserva from Torgiano in Umbria, Italy scored 18+ points on the Dionysian scale of 20.

It was bottle Number 525  of the limited bottling of 15,150 bottles, or only 1,262 cases. It cost about $15 back then. It aged perfectly with a ideal 12% alcohol, and  it went very well with dinner making a simple meal and great experience!

When serving a great aged wine, make the meal as basic as possible and let the wine be the feature of the night.

After decanting, the wine continued to develop for over half and hour showing smoky leather, red fruit, and a pleasant earthiness. It had a long clean finish, and was beautifully balanced. It was a wine you kept in your mouth for minutes before swallowing it.

A simple penne pasta, with home-grown tomatoes, and an Italian salada, permitted the wine to show off.

Made with mostly Sangiovese, the Rubesco is sold in a Burgundian style bottle because it finishes almost Burgundy-like, Try it and age a few. In vino veritas.
