1976 Chateau Romer du Mayot Sauternes

Scoring 19+ points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20, the 1976 Chateau Romer du Mayot Sauternes was pure gold, both in color and in quality. The 1976 Sauternes vintage was excellent. Ideal growing conditions. It tasted of honey and peach, with apricot notes. It was balanced with good acidity.  At 43 years old, it’s starting to peak and can hold well for another decade or more.

I shared it with Dionysian friends along side some creme burlee .

All Sauternes is good, old samples truly reflect drinking the summer sunshine from that unique year. Age a few.   Chateau Romer is a Second Growth classified in the 1855 ranking.  In Vino Veritas.

If memory serves me correctly, it’s Romer du Hayot. I believe I tasted the 80 and 81. It was an excellent value in the early/mid 80’s.
