Costing under $30 back then, with 20 % alcohol, the 1977 Niepoort’s Vintage Porto scored 19 points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20. It still has garnet and ruby color with amber on its edge. Black fruits intermingle with wood and tobacco. The finish is long and smooth.

Served with blue cheese and walnuts, this 42 year old Vintage Port is nearing, not at, its peak. Ten more years for perfection.

Nothing beats a Vintage Porto to announce the beginning of Autumn’s cooler weather. This bottle is from my collection of bottles from my daughter’s birth year. Both she, and the wine, are smooth as silk. Put some Porto away now for your children or grandchildren; or simply live longer and enjoy it yourself.  In Vino Veritas.
