At $75 back then,  with 12% alcohol, the 1982 Chateau Margaux  scored 17+ points on the 20-point Dionysian scale. The one I had two years ago scored half-a-point higher.

All Margaux have the most floral, violet, aromas of the top Grand Cru Bordeaux. This one is a perfect example of a Californian Cab, the style so many 1982’s were made in.

This was the highest rated vintage, but I felt the following year, 1983 made more classic style Bordeaux. Time is proving me right. At 37 years old, it is just a bit  over its peak. Still a charming wine, it was smooth, and had a long after taste.

Served with a lamb chop to help feature the wine, the leather is fading and not as rich as expected. It’s garnet with an amber edge, but the excessive fruit is gone. The label says 12%, but I’m certain that it has 13.5% alcohol.

If you have 82’s at home, drink them. In Vino Veritas.
