Scoring 17+ points on the Dionysian scale, with 12% alcohol, and costing under $20 back then, the 1988 Chateau Cantemerle was delightful.  It’s from the Huat-Medoc (or upper Medoc area in Bordeaux) and showed 22 years of subtle aging with spice, tobacco, and some leather notes mixed with black raspberry.

It was serve with a Comfort Food meal of meatloaf, mashed patotes, and peas. It was worth the wait.

I decanted the wine just 45 minutes before dinner, but could have done so an hour and a half prior to serving it. It had far less sediment than I expected. A Bordeaux like this one is still a good buy and my tasting notes for its 2015 & 2016 vintages report that they are Great Buys.  In Vino Veritas
