This Barsac scored 18+ points on the Dionysian 20-point scale. It cost under $50, has 13.5% alcohol, and was one of the very best dessert wines produced in 2010.  The 2010 Chateau Doisy Daene Barsac is a grand Cru that was classified back in 1855, and remains one of the best today.

Apricot and honey fill your nose! High natural acids cleans the sugar away, and it leaves a long aftertaste. No wonder it was Dionysian Archie Mazzoi’s favorite.

The mold Botrytis cinerea provides the key to turn Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc into these desert wines. Humidity from the Ciron River is the major factor in this terroir.

 

This Second Growth, is always a “Best Buy” and they can age for 50 years. At nine years old, this example was just starting to show its complexity. It was enjoyed with Dionysian Mary Millar and friends.  It is ideal with cheese cake, creme brûlée, or with Roquefort cheese.   In Vino Veritas.
