The Second Growth Grand Cru Bordeaux Chateau Rauzan-Gassies has 13% alcohol, cost under $40 and even for a very weak vintage year, scored a pleasant 15 Dionysian points on its 20-point scale.

Light cherry, and subtle blueberry aromas show. It’s still young at six years old and may  improve through its 10th birthday. However, it’s not to be left after that.

Rauzan-Gassies is from Margaux and does show some of its famous neighbors’ aromas. It got its name in 1661 when Le Chevalier De Ruzan took control of it. Then, it was purchased by Paul Que in 1946 and his family still runs it.

The wine was served with roast beef and it did its job to complement the meat. Most Bordeaux are best drunk starting at 10 years old. In vino veritas.
