With 14% alcohol, the 2011 Dalbosco Viognier Reserve from D.O. Limari Valley in Chile, scored 16+ points on the 20-point Dionysian scale. It cost under $16.
The wine, at eight years old, was complex and mature. I age Viognier longer than most wine lovers do. It has honeysuckle, pear, and stone fruits on the nose. It was straw colored when new, but is now a golden-straw with an edge of light green.
The flavors, increased with age, filled the mouth and lingered on forever. An excellent food wine. I’ve been through this area in Chile and all their wines are designed for meals. In Vino Veritas.
