With a perfect 12% alcohol, the Terra Solaris wine, 2011 Falanghina del Beneventano, is made in Taurasi, in Southern Italy. This dry, clean white has lots of volcanic stone flavors and peach pit on the nose and tongue. It scored 16 points on the Dionysian scale of 20 possible points.

Costing under $20, the wines goes back to the Roman Empire and is an ideal white food-wine. It peaks at 4 to 6 years, but can age a bit longer.

Dry ancient Italian white wines are excellent food-wines, and they pair with many types of foods.

Served with sautéed zucchini, mashed sweet potatoes and roasted chicken, it turned a simple meal into a night of luxury.  In vino veritas.
