The 2011 Muriel Fincas de la Villa Rioja Reserva has 13.5% alcohol and cost about $20. It is coming into its own at eight years old. Deep ruby with spicy Tempranillo aromas, and a well balanced acids, the wine was made for food.

Filled with ripe fruit, spices and Mediterranean herbs, this wine will work with any cheese or red meat.

Rioja Reserva is the category to buy and cellar yourself. Grand Reservas cost so much more and are basically this level of wine simply kept longer the winery’s cellar. The Muriel is a nice wine, and scored 14+ points on the Dionysian scale.  Nice job for a rather weak vintage year. In Vino Veritas.
