This 7% alcohol sparkling dessert wine scores an impressive 18 points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20. It’s ideal with desserts of chocolate or spice fare and fine with cheeses.

It comes from the Piedmont in Italy and is made from the Brochetto  grape. I’ve had this grape made into a dry red, but it seems to always be out of balance toward excessive acid with a bitter finish. As a low-alcohol sparkling wine, it is perfect!

It’s a seductive aperitif, as well as great with dessert. Costing about $24, it’s well worth it and is a necessity for special dinners with wine friends.

The 2013 Banfi Rosa Regale is a chocolate-covered cherry in liquid form. Its subtle sweetness comes from grapes that had their fermentation stopped leaving the natural  sugars in the grape. Aromas of raspberry, rose pedal and cherry rise easily from the bubbles.  In vino veritas.
