Domaine de la Perriere’s 2013 Sancerre, with 12.5% alcohol, costing under $20 and scoring 17+ points on the Dionysian scale of 20 showed white grapefruit, strong mineral notes with medium weight and medium aftertaste. A charming wine. I like Sancerre between four and six years old and older when served with pork instead of fish.
Any modern wine with 12.5% alcohol is a great find. This Sancerre, where, I think, Sauvignon Blanc grows best in the Loire Valley of France, is a complete contrast to the New Zealand style of Sauvignon Blanc with its full grassy litter-box nose.
Wine is the liquid part of every meal as all Dionysian Society members know. Drink water when you’re thirsty. In Vino Veritas.
