The non-vintage Australian Marquee Classic Tokay Rutherglen desert wine from Victoria has 18% alcohol and scored 15+ points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20. It’s made by Chris and Jen Pfeiffer on an embankment just above Sunday Creek, a terrior ideal for very ripe grapes. I’ve cellared the bottle for a decade.

This is an example of a wine that can age one or two decades easily.

Almost as thick as Porto, this boutique dessert wine is many times picked among Australia’s best in the dessert catogory. Cheese cake and Creme Brûlée paired with the $21 bottle. A nose filled with caramel, malt and honey lingers. There’s just no need for so much alcohol.  In vino veritas.
