With 13.5% alcohol, the 2006 Vincent Girardin Saint Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers de Dents de Chiens scored 18 points on the Dionysian scale of 20. It cost under $28 and is as good, or better, than most Meursault costing twice the price. Saint Aubin is a lesser known village near Meursault in Burgundy, France.

Hints of chalk, apple, pear, and vanilla all combine to make this a great wine buy from the Cote d’Or. White Burgundy pairs with so many foods;  it’s hard not to keep a case or two around all the time.

As with all Burgundy, the name of the producer is  more important the village  location. This wine’s “le gout de terroir“, or expression of where it comes from, is exceptional. Mouth-filling, balanced with a long after-taste, this Chardonnay enhanced a simple evening home made meal.

A salad and baked macaroni was all it took to feature a great white Burgundy. A great match.

Vincent Girardin never fines nor filters his red Burgundies, and his whites always show the terroir. The more you learn about wine, the better you will live.  My, Wine for Intellectuals, cost less than a bottle of most Burgundies ($14.99 from Amazon)  and it can affect your life for the better. In Vino Veritas.
