The 2011 Garnier & Fils Chablis Primeir Cru “Montmains” has 12.5% alcohol, a classic perfect level for food wines, cost just over $20 and scored an excellent 16 Dionysian Points on their scale of 20.
It’s still young at four years old, but balanced, has good acid and is an ideal food wine for seafood, soups, and salads. I had another bottle with a Dionysian friends a few weeks back and realized I had two bottles left myself.

Chablis is a great Chardonnay grown on slate stone with little or no wood used to maintain the freshness. It’s always a great food wine. We had this with homemade vegetable soup and crusty French bread. Simple. Excellent.
1er Cru Chablis, I think, are the best buys for Chablis. They really show the crisp apple and mineral notes of a great white wine. Too many modern Chardonnays are way over-oaked. In vino veritas.
