With 13% alcohol, the 1982 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville in Napa Valley scored 18 Dionysian points on the 20-point scale.

Served with venison wrapped with bacon, the 33 year-old wine highlighted the meat’s flavor,  and made the meal extra special. It cost just under twenty bucks back then,  and it was not over-extracted or heated with too much alcohol.

It was ruby-red with orange tint on the edge, tobacco and hints of black fruits lingered during its long aftertaste. I enjoyed a similar bottle last week with Mary Millar and Joan Kramer in Stone Harbor, New Jersey.  In vino veritas.

Grilled Venison wrapped with bacon, roasted red and golden beats with zucchini and a fresh tomato and cucumber salad did its best to highlight a 33 year-old wine. Old wines demand simple dishes.
