Mostly known for its sparkling wines from California, the 2002 Gloria Ferrer Chardonnay from Carneros has 13.5% alcohol, cost under $20, and scored 17+ Dionysian points out of a possible 20.

The wine was filled with subtle ripe apple, white peach and pear over its spicy French oak. At 16 years old, its color darkened and its complexity developed.

The label nots that this wine is “Grown, produced and bottled by” Gloria Ferrer. Those are the best possible words on a wine label.

I find this wine to be one of the most interesting from the Carneros region of California and it works as a food wine.

Sea Bass on Kale and pine nuts made a simple Tuesday home meal something special with the Gloria Ferrer Chardonnay.

The was was hand-harvested, and the whole-cluster pressing with barrel fermentation made it taste like a French white Burgundy and a fine food wine. In Vino Veritas.
