The 2015 Estate Argyros Assyrtiko from Greece’s island of Santorini, with 14% alcohol, and costing under $16, scored an impressive 18 points on the Dionysian Society’s twenty-point judging scale. It is an ideal food wine.

Served with grilled scallops, the wine is refreshing, clean, filled with mineral notes, citrus of lemon and lime zest with hints of orange peel. Assyritko is grown on the grown in circled vines to protect the grapes from the wind.
The wine was served at last year’s Dionysian Gathering and received the highest praise form the most knowledgable wine drinkers. It can age a decade to develop third complexities, but is so rewarding when young, it’s best to savor it now. In Vino Veritas., or in Greek, Oinos kai aletheia.
