Sacha Lichine makes a number of interesting wines but with shrimp and pasta (shown below) his 2013 Single Blend Rosé was an ideal match. A blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah, at 12% alcohol, it was balanced and easy to drink. The juice was bled off the skins very quickly leaving only a hint of pinkness. Because it was the same color as the shrimp, it was a delight for the eye as well as the palate. A great everyday dinner wine under $15 gaining a quality 15 score on the 20-point Dionysian scale.
The Sacha Lichine #5 white, a perfect Reception wine as guests arrive, is made from Chardonnay, Semillon, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Vermentino. The Vermentino is usually thought of as an Italian grape that is excellent with fish and chicken, but when grown in the French Languedoc Roussillon, it gains a little more body and helps the #5 change into a complex, but easy drinking white wine. Scoring a 16 on 20.
With a basic burger, the Sacha Lichine #8, made from Syrah and Grenache, works very well. With the right wine, even the most basic meal can be transformed into a gourmet’s delight. This wine scored 15.5 on the 20-point scale. In vino veritas.
