The 2013 Los Dos Spanish red from the Campo de Borja region has 85% Gernache and 15% Syrah. It scores a fine 15 points on the Dionysian scale of 20 and its 14% alcohol works well with a ripe cherry, red fruits and blackberries and some spiced black pepper from the Syrah on the nose. The flavor lingered between forkfuls of Rabbit Ragu, shared with me from Dionysian Member, Joe Ardito, and the Mafaldine Pasta my wife prepared along with a salad laced with carrots and hard-boiled eggs enhanced the flavors of the wine.
The Los Dos comes from Northeastern Spain near the Ebro River valley where they’ve made wine since the 12th century. For about $10, the wine pairs well with simple, rustic meals like pizza, hamburgers and pasta. The twist-off cap tells you not to age it very long.
This style of everyday wine is exactly what you need to make every evening meal a special event.
