The non-vintage 6 liter (Methuselah) of Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne has 12% alcohol and holds 8 regular bottles of wine. Big bottles age more slowly and are for celebrations. Made with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in Chauilly, Epernay, France, it is creamy, toasty and medium weight; ideal for parties or receptions like the one I hosted. (I put a regular sized bottle in the photo, along side, to help show its size) It scored 16+ Dionysian points and a regular size bottle cost about $35. (Just over $300 for the big one; you pay for extra glass)

All Champagne is fun to drink and perfect at the start of meals. When pouring big bottles, you have to keep pouring once you start with the bottle slanted, or you’ll create a “wave motion” and after rocking it a few times, it will spray out and be wasted. I’ve poured many bottles this size with Dionysians David DeMeo, Bob Casella,  and Anthony Fisher.

Champagne from Magnums (1.5 L is two bottles)  is the best way to age it.  They’ll keep a full decade and get a note of caramel.   Celebrate something soon! Maybe the first Wednesday of the week. In vino veritas.
