The 1969 Bernard Grivelet Le Montrachet scored 19+ on the Dionysian 20-Point scale! The wine had peaked about 20 years ago, but was still on a plateau of perfection.  My last bottle.

It was imported buy Leonard Kreusch, who was the sole agent at the time. It was put in the bottle in the cellars and signed at the Chateau in Chambolle-Musigny. For white wine, only great white Burgundy,  and a few Loire sweeter whites, can last this long. The 13% alcohol was ideal.

The wine paired with simple roasted game hen, asparagus and baked potato. It was creamy with lingering mineral notes and a long finish of tropical flavors. This was an example of having the food showcase the wine. At 45 years old, the wine reflected all the history that’s pasted since it lay down to sleep. Put some wines away. In vino veritas.
