Sadly, the label had gotten wet some years back and I hadn’t coated it with hair-spray, which usually helps preserve labels. But inside, the wine was smooth as silk.

Great wines are always good, even in off years, because the producers are so selective and want to maintain their reputation.  This once scored 18+ points out of 20, had 12.5% alcohol, and cost, back then,  under $40. It was served with a post-dinner cheese course. At 45 years old, it was remarkable. In Vino Veritas.
