The First Growth Grand Cru Bordeaux 1975 Chateau Latour has 12 % alcohol and scored 19 points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20.

1975 was considered one of the most tannic and longest lived Bordeaux of the century. Some said it would never soften or open up. Well, it has. It was filled with leathery tobacco mixed with cassis notes after decanting. It was brick- colored with ruby shades. It filled the mouth and had a long complex aftertaste.

At 40 years old, the has peaked, softened and showed it true character as a Premier Grand Cru Classe’ Bordeaux.

Served with old members of the Dionysian Society, International, during a five-course “Order of the Goat” Gathering, it proved that Parker-style wines, made for modern taste, are destroying centuries of historic techniques in Bordeaux.

The bottle came from Joe Ingemi’s half case, which we split back when it was released, and cost about $20 then. The 2009 and ’10 Chateau Latour cost over $900 a bottle now days. Absurd! But, the market gets what people are willing to pay. Cellar some wines.

It’s made with 75%Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. In vino veritas.
