The 41 year-old 1978 Bersano Barolo ,Bottle Number 204945, from Italy’s Piedmont had13% alcohol, cost about $24 at its release, and recently scored 19 points on the 20-point Dionysian scale.

Hints of road tar and rose pedal with smoky wood filled the glass. It was decanted minutes before serving and continued to ope for another hour and a half. Rich and smooth, it was the king of wines and the wine of kings.

Served with sautéed pieces of boar served with hints of truffle oil.

It was my last bottle and prior to my meal, I was able to share a lot of it with Dionysian friends in the back yard eight feet apart. It was holding at peak over the past 15 years. Share an old cellar selection and notice who spends the most time smelling it. In Vino Veritas.
