Costing under $20 back then, the 1979 Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has 12.5% alcohol, scored 18 points (Gold Medal) on the 20-point Dionysian scale. The wine, at 37 years old, is nearly at peak, but can age another five to ten years.

Leather and cigar box notes rise above some black fruits. Decanted half an hour before drinking wasn’t enough time.

This has long been one of my favorite wines. It never stops proving itself.

Great wines need to pair with simple dishes so you can better enjoy the wine’s quality.

Simple multi-flavored meat and veggie mini raviolis help show off the wine. Age some Bordeaux as son as you can. Look for 2005, 2009, 2010 or wait for the 2015’s.  In vino veritas.
