The 37-year-old 1983 Jekel Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve from the Home Vineyard in Arroyo Seco has 13.5% alcohol, tobacco, oak, spicy black fruits and after decanting, a medium body and a soft finish. It was fully brown from the edge deep into the body of the wine. It scored 13 points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20, because it had faded too far.

Twenty years ago, it was at peak.

It was once a high quality wine and other examples were fully enjoyed. The wine was suppose to be paired with a roast.

Arroyo Seco is not as well known as Napa or Sonoma, but the area produces exceptional red wines. Don’t let this one example scare you from trying others from that area. In Vino Veritas.
