Scoring 19+ points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20, this $65 magnum (back then)  of 1986 Chateau Longueville Comtesse de Lalande proved to be one of the best Bordeaux wines form Pauillac in that vintage!  It was savored with petit lamb chops.

Wines in Magnums age more gracefully. This classic Bordeaux blend was almost at peak.

Pichon Lalande has been one of my favorite  wines for over 40 years, and this bottle proved to me why it’s so likable. Cavendish tobacco, cherry, plum,  and spice fill the glass.  Its Medium weight with a long clean aftertaste show that the tannin had mellowed. It was decanted 45 minutes before tasting and continued to open for another hour. At 40 years it, the wine proved it was worth the wait.  In vino veritas.
