The 1987 Kenwood Cabernet Sauvignon Artist Series  cost about $20 back then, scores 17+ Dionysian Points on their 20-point scale, and has matured over the past 31 years beautifully.  The label is Jean Miro’s “Man with a Balance” and the wine is indeed balanced.

The 12.8% alcohol proves that you don’t need high alcohol wines.

Sonoma County can produce Bordeaux-like wines. The 1987 Artist Series is now at perfection and filled with complex aromas and taste.

Earth, wood, black fruits like really ripe blueberries, all mix to provide an excellent red dinner wine. The tannins are now soft, and after decanting, the wine continued to open up for three-quarters of an hour.

Too many people drank their Kenwood’s on release; age these wines at least a decade. The wine will hold at peak for the same number of years that it took to get there before declining .   In Vino Veritas.
