With 13.5% alcohol, the 32 year-old Rhone red is great! This 1989 Paul Jaboulet Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Cedres was balanced and smooth after decanting. It continued to open for well over another hour after serving it. Herbs and mineral, iron notes and red berry aromas fill the glass. It covered the entire palate and the aftertaste lingered on and on.

It cost under $25 back then and scored 18+ Dionysian points on their 20-point scale. This was Gold.

It was served with a starter pate’ and then with a lamb kabob. A+

Another example of why you age some wines and drink them at perfection. Wine cellars should never become wine cemeteries. Open your best bottles and make any day an occasion; don’t wait for some special occasion. In Vino Veritas.
