At 14.2% alcohol, the 2002 Flora Springs Trilogy scored 17 points on the Dionysian scale of 20. It had black fruits and smoky oak on the nose. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. They many times add Petit Verdot and Malbec into this Rutherford, Napa Valley blend. As close to Bordeaux as you can get.

Served with a grilled steak, patotes and New Jersey garden peas.

I’ve found a lot of the big Californian reds peak before or at 15 years, but this 18 year-old was just coming into its prime. Made before the alcohols went through the ceiling. I brought this bottle back after doing a radio interview with the owner outside over looking the vines in front of the winery. I hoped that experience did not affect my scoring it. In Vino Veritas.
