Costing under $12, this Spanish 2009 El Furioso Tempranillo from Castilla y Leon is an excellent food wine.

Scoring 15 points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20, the wine has soft tannis, a full nose of cherry, raspberry and spice. It has a medium aftertaste and helps each new forkful of food taste its best.

Imported by Vinum International of Napa, CA, the wine is made by Hijos de Antonio Barcelo S.A. and can be found throughout the country.

Served with Steelhead Trout instead of my usual Pinot Noir with fatter fish, it paired superbly.

Wild rice and cous cous with a tomato-onion salad with fresh mint enhanced the trout that was laced with similar flavors.
