The 13% alcohol 2009 Nemea from Harlaftis scored 16+ on the Dionysian 20-point scale. Costing under $15, it is a great buy to have with any meat dish, not just Greek food.

This Greek red  shows red fruits and spice. Its ripe flavors finish very softly and would complement meats, poultry, pasta and even Greek salads.

Nemea is a section of the much larger Peloponnese area of Greece, and the red wines there are usually made of, or based on, the Apiorghitiko grape.  It’s also known as the Saint George grape. The Producer, Gaia, is most famous from the region, but this Harlaftis bottle was just fine.  We enjoyed it at Zorba’s in Philadelphia, a Greek BYOB. In vino veritas.
