The  14% alcohol Amador Estate Selection of Cabernet Sauvignon made by Odfjell scored 16 points on the 20 point Dionysian scale. It’s enjoyable. Well worth $20 to $25, it has plum, blackcurrant and blackberry aromas and licorice which I learned comes from the Odfjell terroir.  Licorice notes usually come from a soil, not the grape’s skin. The wine is soft and velvety making it easy to drink right now, but it can age a decade.

Armador is Spanish for shipowner and the Odfjell’s maritime background is reflected in the name as they  now make quality Chilean  wines to ship everywhere. The wine was perfect for a pasta, peas and bacon dinner on the deck. It’s a wine to buy by the case.  The wine is distributed by Fredrick Wildman. In vino veritas.
