2011 George Duboeuf Chiroubles Grand Cru Beaujolais

There are 10 Grand Cur Beaujolais. Chiroubles is one of the least known but one of the most favorable! Because I don’t expect much from Beaujolais, I usually rate them 13 or 14 on the 20-Point Dionysian Scale, but this Georges Duboeuf 2011 Chiroubles scored a 15+, a quality Bronze Medal wine.

It had 13% alcohol and was fragrant with fruity scents of cherry, strawberry and some banana, and a supple smooth finish. It got better as it aired.

Served on a Wednesday snowy evening, it paired well with mashed-potatoes and meat loaf. I played French Bistro music during dinner. Duboeuf makes a full line of Beaujolais, but with this Grand Cru, he showed how good a simple Gamay-based wine can be. In vino veritas.

  1. Grand Cru Beaujolais are among my favorite wines. At the top of my list is Moulin -A – Vent. It is rich and full bodied with fruit. Opened at least an hour before, and as you know, it gets better and better.

    Milmay guys do it right.
