The 13% alcohol 2011 Morgon Domaine des Versauds, shipped by George Duboeuf from Romaneche-Thorins, in Beaujolais, France, scored 17 points on the 20-point Dionysian scale.

Morgon is one of the ten Grand Cru Beaujolais villages. It is ruby in color, with strawberry, banana, and ripe red fruits on the nose. It has soft tannins and is an easy drinking red wine that pairs well with nearly everything and is great with hamburgers.

Fleurie, Brouilly, Cote de Brouilly, Moulin-a-Vent, Saint-Amour, Chenas, Julienas, Chiroubles and Regnie are the other nine Grand Cru Beaujolais besides Morgon.

The wine is limited to three days or less on the skins to limit excessive tannins and is bottled within six months. Most are meant to be consumed young, but the Grand Crus can age five to nine years. Costing under $15, it is a good buy. In vino veritas.
