The 2011 Renwood Clarion has 14.8% alcohol, just over what I prefer, but it is balanced and shows no heat. It is a blend of Zinfandel and Syrah from Amador County in California.
It’s a massive red: inky purple with spice and blackberry on the nose. Heavy dark fruits continue to rise as you swirl it.
The fruit lingers for a very long time and it paired well with simple home -made hamburgers laced with fried onions and a fresh garden salad. Zinfandel always works with pasta and red meat dishes as well as being the ideal wine for game, especially venison. The Clarion is a masterpiece of blending and it scored 17 positive points on the Dionysian 20-point scale.
I believe this wine can age a decade even though few people age Zinfandels. Put a few of these away to sleep for five years at least. In vino veritas.
