Made from 50% Limniona and 50% Syrah, this Greek 2011 Domaine Zafeirakis Rose’ has 13% alcohol and scored 14+ points on the 20 -point Dionysian scale. The Rose’ is designed for meals, not just sipping. It comes from Tyrnavos in Greece, and is a Frederick Wildman import.

It has a blood-orange zest aroma, a hint of spice and pepper,  and is very dry with a medium aftertaste, ideal for food. It was served with a salad laced heavily with onions and pasta with pesto. It held up to everything on the dish.

The Limniona grape is indigenous to Greece, and goes back centuries. Costing  about $12, it is bigger and darker than most Spanish or French Rose’ wines. Seek it out for summer and autumn dining. In vino veritas.

Pesto made from fresh basil is always great with a pasta and favorable wine.
