Costing $18 with 13% alcohol, the 2013 Franco Amoroso Barbera D’Alba scored a fine 15 points on the 20-point Dionysian scale.

I enjoy Barbera wines from five to ten years old, and even older in special years. This one had an orange edge, but was still deep ruby. It had cherry and plum notes with some spice and Italian herbs on the tongue. It could mature another five years to peak (I’d guess)

It was a pleasant dinner wine. Mellow tannins, nice fruit, and a long clean finish all helped to make it enjoyable.

We served it with a pork-sausage  dinner; pasta on the side. It was better with the food than all by itself.  It was a bronze medal wine and I’d look for others. In Vino Veritas.
