With 13.5% alcohol, scoring 17+ Dionysian points on its 20-point scale, and costing under $65, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino from Banfi is rounding out at just seven years old. In another 10 years, this will be a collector’s item. Big black fruits, soft balanced tannins, and plenty of grip. It’s a great food wine.

We served it with a simple meat sauce pasta to make the wine the feature of the night. Last time I had one, it was paired to a wild boar dish. Both times proved that the wine was made for food.

The French oak is hiding some of the Italian-ness, but it still is enjoyable. Everything Banfi produces seem to work well with dinner and make life enjoyable. In Vino Veritas.
