A 2013 Italian white wine made from Pigato grapes scored 16+ points from a table of Dionysian members using their 20-point scale. The Cycnus is Estate Bottled by Poggio Del Corleri at Riviera Ligure di Ponente and is listed as “Riviera dei Fiori.

It has 12.5% alcohol and is clean, high in acid with mineral notes over peach pit and went well with grilled chicken. The wine is balanced and seems to have the power to easily age a few years. Its straw yellow color highlights its youth.

It comes from the Liguria Region (way up north) where it is sometimes called Vermentino or Rollo , and is the main white grape of the area. This is a classic “food wine” with refreshing acidity and the ability to enhance the flavor of food. For around $15, it’s worth the time to find one. In vino veritas.
