At 13% alcohol, the 2014 Chateau Les Charmes-Godard white Bordeaux from the Cotes de Bordeaux cost under $20 and scored 15+ points on the Dionysian scale of 20.

Grilled salmon with a coconut crust, mashed white potatoes and sautéed  Brussels sprouts paired well with the crisp white Bordeaux.

The wine is refreshing, balanced and is a blend of 50% Semillon, thus the fig notes, 35% Sauvignon Gris and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. I’ve listed this wine as a “Best Buy” for spring and summer drinking.

White Bordeaux doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Seek out the lesser known smaller houses and enjoy it with seafood, chicken and salads.

Hints of citrus and grapefruit, its medium weight and a long clean finish, make the Les Charmes-Godard an ideal food wine. In vino veritas.
