The Villanyi 2004 Pinot Noir from Monarchia is 100% Pinot Noir, has 13.5% alcohol and scored an excellent 16+ Dionysian points. Costing under $30, it is filled with cherry, spice and oak flavors. You’d think it was Burgundy, but it’s from Hungary.

Aromas of red berries and rhubarb abound. It has very soft tannins and at 13 years old it’s at its peak.

Even with almost excessive fruits, it works well with game birds, pork and turkey. Hungary makes world class wines.

This wine is also very drinkable when it’s released; cellar only if you want to see barnyard complexities develop. In vino veritas.
