The 2015 Desierto25 Pinot Noir from Patagonia, Argentina, had 14% alcohol, the maximum I’d get for any Pinot Noir, cost under $20, and scored a pleasant 16+ points on the 20-point Dionysian Scale.

It looked like a Cote de Beaune and even smelled like it. Cherry pits aromas rose with forest floor notes. In a blind tasting I’d pick it as French. It was served with backed macaroni and it paired nicely. I’ll try the next one with salmon.

The label shows the desert-soil that it’s grown in. It’s from a low-yielding vineyard and that makes it true to the French style of Pinot Noir.

It could have scored a 17 but for the alcohol. It has a long finish and will develop more with another five years. I plan to get a few more. In Vino Veritas.
