At 13% alcohol, scoring a nice 15 points on the Dionysian scale of 20, and costing under $12, the 2017 Bieler Pere & Fils Sabine Rose’ from Aix-en-Provence is a charming summer wine. It is 41% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, the grape that adds balance to Rose’ wines, 15% Cabernet, and 5% Rolle, a grape the Italians call Vermentino.

We drank it with a grilled salmon meal. It’s light blush color, dry fruity nose, and its clean aftertaste enhanced the meal nicely.

The wine comes from the birthplace of painter Paul Cezanne. Some Rose’s producers are now starting to add sugar for the younger American taste, but the classic dry Rose’ wines from Provence, and its nearby regions, are made for food. Avoid sweet Rose’. Now is the time for dry Rose’ wines.  In Vino Veritas.
