The wine was decanted an hour before serving. It had a lot of crust stuck to the bottle. Palmer is an excellent Bordeaux food wine and ages well. The 2015 will be outstanding.
Scoring 17+ Dionysian points, the 12% alcohol 1986 Chateau Palmer from the Village of Margaux in Bordeaux’s Medoc, was poured from a Double Magnum which is a 3 liter bottle.
Served with a steak, the 30 year-old wine was still peaking. Rich in ruby red, tobacco and fruit lingered and the tannins still had a way to go. Large bottles permit almost ageless storing. The wine was shared with 16 Dionysians at their annual Tastevin dinner.

The meat cut all the remaining tannins, and made the wine soft as silk. Grilled onions added a sweetness, and pieces of butternut squash added body to both the dish and the wine.
Chateau Palmer, a Third Growth from the 1855 Classification has long been a favorite. A great tasting is opening Chateau Palmer, Desmirail and Cantenac-Brown, all Troisiemes Cru from the same area, and hosting a Margaux meal with the three wines all at once. In vino veritas.
