Scoring 18+ points on the Dionysian scale of a possible 20, the 1975 Poggio Reale Chianti Spalletti Reserva has 12.4% alcohol, still shows its orange-red color with hints of browning and a nose filled with floral, leather, tomato and spice.
It was opened for the 300th Anniversary of Chianti this year.

You don’t want high alcohol if you plan to age wines that will show the subtle flavors of the terroir from which they came..
The wine cost just $4.99 back when I bought it. This was just D.O. C. then, now it is D.O.C.G. Food wines like this make the wait worth while.

The Rose helped the tomato salad, but the Chianti made the pasta dish heavenly. Drinking old wines is re-living history.
The wines is from the old style design, and was made with red Sangiovese and Canaiolo, and the white grapes Trebbiano and Malvasia which are no longer used to make Chianti. Too bad. In Vino Veritas.
