Made with the Xinomavro grape, this 13% alcohol Rose’ from Greece scores 16 points on the Dionysian 20-point scale for judging wines. It is a dry, clean ideal Rose’ for food.
The 2013 Akakies Rose’ , made with the indigenous Greek grape, Xinomavro (usually made into a rich red wine) came from the Amyndeon Vineyard at the Kir-Yianni estate in Northwestern Greece.
Aromas of blood-orange and tangerine rise easily over a medium-bodied wine that has enough acid to cleanse any palate. It cost about $14 and is well worth it.
It was paired with sautéed red beets and red-skin potatoes with fried eggs along side a Jersey salad. Simple and delicious.
