With 12% alcohol, and scoring 17 Dionysian points out of 20, the Multi-Vintage H. Goutorbe Brut  Rose Champagne from Ay in France’s Champagne region  cost about $40. It was excellent before the meal, and with an opening soup.

The light salmon-colored Champagne was balanced and had a lingering finish of toast and pear.

The carrot and fresh pea soup was enhanced by the Champagne’s flavors. Each sip refreshed the palate for the next spoonful proving Champagne to be a fine food-wine.

The wine is a “Terry Theise Selection” and is distributed by Skurnik Wines. It is an “RM” wine meaning it is grown and made by the same family with no outside wines blended into it. The big houses will have “RM” printed in tiny letters near the bottom of the labels because they need more grapes than they can grow.  In vino veritas.
