Renwood 2011 Clarion

Renwood is known for its Zinfandels. Their 2011 Clarion is one of their best wines and scored 17+ points on the Dionysian 20-point scale.

Renwood’s 2011 Clarion is a Zinfandel and Syrah blend from Amador County. Its 14.8% alcohol is well within my range (most Amador wines have gotten to be way too high in alcohol, even up into the 16% range) for dinner wines. The wine is balanced with black raspberry notes and has a long, long aftertaste. It finishes smooth and clears the palate making it ready for the next forkful of food.

My wife made a lightly spiced beef stroganoff, which I think, helped the wine to get an extra half point. She had some tulips on the table to help us forget all the snow we’ve had on the East Coast, but the wine and food did the trick. I have aged some Zinfandels for over 20 years, but I believe they’re best drunk from five to ten years old.

Get two or three different Renwoods and sample them all together. In vino veritas.
